THE MILLS
Of the eight mills in Manzanares El Real, known for their description on a map of the first third of the 18th century and for the Cadastre of Ensenada of 1761, only ruins of the so-called "Molino Caído de Moros" and the "Molino del Cura" remain , bigger and better conservation.
The Cura mill, a masonry building, with ashlar chains at the corners, is the only one preserved from the many that stretched along the river, which was already used in the 18th century by the Royal Office fulling mill and which It is known by the name of Molino del Cura or de los Frailes.
In the 1724 plan of Tomás López and according to its name, it could refer to the fact that at some point it could be owned by a religious community, either for its own use or for another institutional service. Apparently it supplied not only the town, but also Moralzarzal, Cerceda, El Boalo and Mataelpino.
This construction is made up of two semi-detached buildings that housed the miller's house and the mill itself, in addition to all the complementary constructions for the organization of water collection and its use.
The building has a traditional organization, with a habitable floor where grain collection and milling itself were arranged, and under which was the mechanism for harnessing the hydraulic force. Its annexed building to the mill, housed the house, warehouses and stables.
The mill was used until after the Spanish Civil War, but it has been out of use for many years.
There were also three fulling mills in the municipal area, two linked to the production of cloths in Colmenar Viejo and a third dependent on the Royal Hospice of Madrid, of some importance in the years of Carlos III.
