UK based artist, Sophie Boggis-Rolfe was born in London, with an English-Ukrainian background. Growing up, she has been strongly influenced by the female artists in her family and was also awarded an art scholarship at school. After recently graduating from UAL in Fine Arts, Sophie has continued to pursue her creativity as an artist, continuously evolving her style using a variety of mixed media. In her main method of art making she uses nails and thread to portray subjects in a realistic manner, depicting portraiture through this technique that she calls Constellations. Recently Sophie has been unearthing the threads of her Eastern European heritage and identity, exploring Ukrainian topics with mention of the prevalence of modern day Russian colonialism. As a counterpart she draws focus on celebrating culture, interweaving textiles and languages by integrating her Constellations with crosstich embroidery, and recognising the Ukrainian perceptive and influence through a contemporary lense.'
