Transnistria is a territory located northeast of Moldova. Although it is considered as a Moldovan breakaway republic that is part of this country, the truth is that it is a de facto independent state, a state with limited recognition. However, Transnistria is not recognized by the United Nations, so it is not considered a country. Transnistria's population is approximately 500,000, and the official languages are Russian and Moldovan. The official currency is the Transnistrian ruble. Transnistria's economy is based on industrial and agricultural production. The region is rich in natural resources such as coal, natural gas, and arable land. The Transnistrian conflict began in 1990 when the region declared independence from Moldova and became a breakaway republic.
